Our Foundations Level Class series teaches students that the meditative art of Improvisation is a powerful and joyous process. There's a reason the word "play" is in our name! Play is at the root of how we continue to learn new skills as adults.

No acting or performing skills are required: just a desire to have fun, trust your instincts, and learn new ways to communicate and collaborate! Our fun & engaging classes are geared toward anyone new to the practice of improvisation as well as for those who'd like to re-learn or continue to practice the basics of the art form. Together, we'll learn:

  • How to use various kinds of listening
  • How to stay in the moment
  • How to spontaneously tell a story with others
  • How to think on our feet & trust our instincts
  • How to quickly collaborate with others
  • How to learn and use non-verbal communication
  • How to discover & overcome our social/emotional "blind spots"
  • How playing with others allows us to discover our strengths

OUR CLASSES ARE CAPPED AT 10 PARTICIPANTS! Fewer students = more personalized feedback and time to work.

PREREQUISITES: Classes are suitable for ages 15+.

Why Take Classes With Us?

Our studio is founded on the belief that student progress only comes by providing clear instruction and feedback. We not only want our students learn the core skills of improvisation, we also want them to improve their skills over their time with us. Because of that, we offer learning opportunities that students won't find anywhere else. All of our students can expect to receive the following:

  1. A safe, nurturing, and supportive environment & community
  2. Just 10 students max per class so everyone gets a lot of attention
  3. Flexible class options: only purchase the number of classes you want/need
  4. Receiving coaching while most games are played & then discussing each exercise when it's completed to gage for your awareness
  5. Laying out and then discussing that week's curriculum on our blackboard
  6. Closing every class by asking each student to recognize their own wins
  7. Being invited to join our regular student showcases at the end of every class cycle
  8. Getting videos and pictures of their showcase as keepsakes and learning tools
  9. Reviewing showcase videos with teachers so the entire class can learn from their experiences
  10. Receiving long, detailed, and highly personalized notes from your teacher by email celebrating your wins during the class series and recommending skills to work on when you come back for another class with us

Meet Your Instructor

Natasha Von Salza Instructor, Change Through Play Studio

After ten years of working and studying in Sweden, Natasha returned to the US, to seek transformation through creative art. She studied improvisation under Mary Pat McCoy at Change Through Play, before going on to study under its Founder, David Koff. She remains in David’s Advanced Lab series, where she continues to study, develop, and refine her long-form improvisation practice and knowledge. Natasha’s focus in the art and practice of improvisation is “Walking into the unknown”. The joy and freedom that comes as a result of that focus makes her a perfect fit to teach our Foundations level. Natasha’s kind spirit and playful demeanor invites continual growth, laughter, and excellence from all participants.

Student Information

Improvisation is spontaneous. The unexpected not only can happen, it often DOES. Because of that, we strive to create an environment of artistic exploration and freedom in a safe and permissive atmosphere. In our studio, participants are allowed and encouraged to experiment while they learn. If we make mistakes - and we will!! - that's OK. We don’t believe that our goal is to avoid making mistakes: it’s to learn from them when they occur.

Our community asks all participants & instructors to follow these simple guidelines:

* Be welcoming and kind to everyone!
* Have fun!
* Accept and celebrate differences!
* Communicate & respect boundaries in a kind way!
* Assume good intentions!
* Allow for mistakes! 👍🏼 😊

If you see something, say something. We include many opportunities to speak/share during class. If you’re uncomfortable: tell the community why or, if you prefer, speak to an instructor during a break or after class. We’re here to help you on your journey.

Please use your mouse/finger to sign below to confirm you understand and commit to these guidelines.
